In case of forest fire
This guide was written to provide support for people faced with or having faced a forest fire. Read it to find out what to do if your area is under threat. You'll also find all the instructions and recommendations safeguard your home or business, if you are affected by fire or smoke.
What is an “open-air fire”?
Any fire burning freely or that can freely spread. Examples of open-air fires are fireworks and flame and spark producing tools (such as welding tools).
The following are not considered to be an open fire: Propane or ethanol fireplaces. These facilities may be used in the event of a ban.
Fires burning in facilities intended for this purpose and equipped with spark arrestor screens, such as stoves, fireplaces, and metal containers, are not considered to be open-air fires. In order to comply with prevailing standards, spark arrestor openings must be no wider than 1 centimetre.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE from your Fire Department and the SOPFEU
Caution Alert - Be vigilant with bonfires and fireworks
Source : www.sopfeu.qc.ca
As the National Holiday long weekend approaches, the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) is reminding everyone that it's important to celebrate safely. Over the next few days, other festive activities will be taking place, such as National Aboriginal Peoples' Day, Canada Day and various regional festivities. This period of celebration is largely associated with bonfires and fireworks. According to statistics compiled by SOPFEU, some 60 forest fires a year are caused by poorly extinguished bonfires. Fireworks are responsible for three forest fires a year.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE from your Fire Department and the SOPFEU
Caution Alert - Early spring provides opportunity for wildfires
Source : www.sopfeu.qc.ca
In this early spring, the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) is issuing a call for caution to the population over the next few days. A high pressure system will settle over Quebec bringing several days of sunshine and dry weather, which could increase temperatures by 10 to 20 degrees Celsius above the seasonal norm. In this regard, the fire danger currently ranges from "high" to "extreme", as the increase in temperatures, the lack of precipitation and the very low humidity levels favour the outbreak of brush and forest fires.
SOPFEU reminds us that in early spring, the greenery is not yet present, making dead grasses highly flammable. The last winter received less accumulation than normal, and the soil is drier. With the snow cover gone in many areas, it only takes a few hours of sunshine and a little wind to dry out the brush and increase the fire danger.
Next week, the Municipality of the Township of Wentworth will proceed with the reinstallation of the fire prevention signs located at the entry points of the territory.
In the meantime, please consult the SOPFEU (www.sopfeu.qc.ca) or our website (www.wentworth.ca) to know the current level of fire risk. For any emergency, please call 9-1-1.
